New Technologies and Their Impact on Agriculture, Environment and the Food Industry

The agri-food sector is facing global challenges that cannot be met without support by information technologies (IT) on a level even beyond today’s advanced IT utilizations. However, emerging technologies and their integration open the way for the development of integrated digital environments that could provide platforms for a reorganization of sector activities, and especially market related activities, capable of coping with the challenges ahead. The paper discusses the major IT development lines, the support potential of their integration, organizational requirements for the utilization of the potential and possible consequences for the future organization of the agri-food sector.
